2025 Impact Report

Waweza Movement 2025 Impact Report

As we look back at 2025, we are deeply grateful for your generosity and faithfulness in loving the poor in Kenya. Because of your support, our work in Kakamega continued to care for orphans, vulnerable children, and widows, while taking significant steps toward long-term self-sustainability through farming, skills training, and local empowerment. To God be the glory!

Orphan Care

  • 30 children and young adults supported
  • 45,000 meals this year (our estimate)

In 2025, we supported 30 children and young adults across primary school, secondary school, university, medical, vocational, and skilled trade education. Each child took concrete steps toward a sustainable future while having a safe place to live, food at every meal, and all the supplies they needed to learn.

Most importantly, they received spiritual care and the study of God's word.

Because of the area we work, we also open meal time up to neighborhood kids who otherwise would not eat. We estimate our organization fed 45,000 meals this year.

BIG WIN!

Working closely with our social worker, we successfully re-unified children with extended family through a monitored transition while on breaks from boarding school to build strong family bonds and support systems. This is something we have been actively working on for several years, and we're seeing beautiful fruit from these efforts! Thank you Lord!

Self-Sustainability Through Farming

70
Bags of Maize. At 90kgs each we harvested enough to cover our maize needs for an entire year!
3
Bags of Beans. At 90kgs each this provides an additional protein source for our children
$6.5K
Food Costs Saved. Annual reduction in expenses through our harvests this year
20%
Shared with Widows. Harvested food distributed to widows in our program!!

This year marked a major milestone in our journey toward self-sustainability. Our farming efforts not only provided food security for the children in our care but also allowed us to bless the widows in our program. We established 10 beehives with 5 already colonized, and planted fruit trees including mangoes, avocados, and passion fruit that will provide nutrition and income for years to come. We also moved all of our dairy cows to live at our farm which provides daily milk and we now grow all of our own cow feed on the farm!

The reduction of $6,500 in annual food expenses means more resources can be directed toward education, medical care, and expanding our impact. This is stewardship in action, using the land God has given us to multiply the seeds you've planted through your faithful giving.

Leatherwork: Skills for the Future

Training Young Men in Employable Trade Skills

Our leatherwork and shoemaking project trained 2 young men in employable trade skills this year. This hands-on vocational training gives them the ability to earn a sustainable income and support themselves and their future families.

We have a very promising contract on the horizon with a large organization in Nairobi to start supplying and selling a large number of shoes to them in 2026! This partnership could transform our leatherwork program from a training initiative into a thriving social enterprise to further our desire to work towards self sustainability.

The widows in our program have experienced profound transformation this year. Monthly counseling and encouragement sessions have restored hope, dignity, and emotional stability to women who once felt forgotten by society. Through financial literacy training, they're learning to manage resources wisely and plan for the future.

The soap-making enterprise has been particularly impactful, giving widows both a marketable skill and a source of income. We have helped several launch or strengthen small businesses, moving from dependence to independence. Watching these women rediscover their worth and purpose has been one of the most beautiful fruits of 2025.

Your support doesn't just help widows survive, it helps them thrive. You're giving them the tools to provide for themselves while restoring their sense of dignity and purpose in Christ.

Life-Changing Medical Care

Our medical program saw remarkable breakthroughs this year, with interventions that literally changed lives. From restoring sight to preventing amputations, your generosity made the impossible possible for vulnerable children and families.

3
Sight-Restoring Surgeries. Three children who lived in darkness can now see! These successful surgeries for blindness and eye sight issues transformed their ability to learn, play, and experience God's beautiful creation.
500+
Home Medical Visits. Primarily to children with disabilities, providing wound care, physiotherapy, pain relief, physical therapy, medication & food delivery, basic hygiene provided, and vital health monitoring. Chronic wound care helped our clients avoid amputation of limbs. Most importantly the most least and forgotten were reminded they are not forgotten by a God who loves them.
Free
Obstetric Ultrasounds. Introduced free obstetric ultrasound services significantly improving maternal and fetal health outcomes in our community.
2
Wheelchairs Provided. Dramatically improving mobility and independence for children with disabilities, along with continued sponsorship for special needs school including transportation and learning supplies.
5
Children Registered. Special needs children beneficiaries enrolled under national health insurance and in special needs school, ensuring ongoing access to the medical care and learning they need.
Motorcycle
For Remote Access. This gift significantly improved access to remote villages and emergency response times, allowing our medical team to reach the most vulnerable faster.

Children with disabilities showed measurable progress through structured therapy and adaptive equipment. What seemed like small interventions, a wheelchair, regular physiotherapy visits, proper wound care, became catalysts for dramatic life change. This also provides significant respite to their parents who are burnt out.

Members of Waweza's team in Kenya

A HUGE Thank You to Our Staff in Kenya

Without you, we could not do what we do. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your incredible dedication, unwavering heart, and faithful service to the children, widows, and communities we serve. Your tireless efforts bring hope and healing every single day. Oscar, Diana, Mellan, Julius, Leakey, Lynette, and MANY MORE, THANK YOU! We honor you for the work you do!

Oscar's Visit: A Big Highlight of the Year

One of the greatest highlights was having our director, Oscar, visit for a couple weeks from Kenya. Many of you were able to meet him during his time here, whether at our open house, over a meal, or at one of the churches we visited together.

Thank you for taking the time to hear his heart for the children, widows, and communities we serve. His trip was both special and productive.

During his visit, Joe and I were able to spend long stretches of time talking with Oscar about our future vision, current projects, our Kenyan staff, and the needs of the kids in our care. These conversations were clarifying, energizing, and unifying.

Oscar's presence brought the work in Kenya to life in a new way for many of our supporters. Hearing directly from someone on the ground, seeing his passion and dedication, and understanding the daily realities and joys of the ministry created deeper connections and renewed commitment. We already can't wait for his next trip!

Financial Stewardship & Transparency

We believe transparency is an essential part of honoring both God and our donors. Your trust in us is important, and we take seriously our responsibility to steward every dollar with integrity and purpose.

95%
Donations Direct to Kenya. Of every dollar donated goes directly to Kenya to care for orphans, vulnerable children, and widows

Updated October 2026: for figures from our Form 990, see our Financials page.

5%
Overhead Costs. Limited to things like website hosting, software, office supplies, donation processing, and accountant fees. Card fees come out of each gift; Waweza gifts not set aside for a program cover the rest.
100%
U.S.A. Volunteer Staff. Everyone serving with Waweza Movement in the United States does so in a volunteer capacity

Why This Matters

When 95 cents of every dollar goes directly to the field, your impact is maximized. Our limited overhead costs are intentionally kept lean and include only essential expenses that enable us to operate with excellence and compliance.

Thank you for trusting us to steward your generosity with integrity and purpose.

Looking Ahead

2026 Vision and Needs

Looking ahead to 2026, we will continue to walk with the orphans, vulnerable children, and widows God has entrusted into our care. We will continue to steward our farm to take more and more steps towards Kenyan self-sustainability for our organization.

School Fees for 2026

Need: $20,000

We will have 11 students this year in trade training programs, college, or university. This funding covers tuition, boarding, and supplies for these students as they pursue higher education and specialized training.

Farm Pickup Truck

Need: $20,000

A pickup truck for our farm is a high-priority need that will help us in farm activities, transporting fertilizers, and moving our harvests from the farm. This investment will multiply the efficiency and productivity of our agricultural operations.

Chicken Laying Business

Need: $40,000

Launching this sustainable poultry project on our farm with 1,000 chickens would provide ongoing income and food security. This covers coop/building construction, equipment, feed for six months, and a solar power system. This will also become a small business hub for the widows in our program to learn how to have a small poultry farm.

Special Needs Medical Program

Monthly Need: $1,800–$2,000

Our top priority is continued funding for the medical program. As we have taken on more beneficiaries, our monthly costs have increased. Consistent funding ensures we can continue providing life-changing care to children with disabilities.

Small Business Seed and Home Repairs for Widows

Need: Flexible amounts from $100-$500 per widow

Many widows in our program have the ability to start a small business and just need startup capital. Even $100 of vegetables to sell at market can be life-altering! Many also need basic house repairs, fixing leaking roofs, having a toilet, access to clean water, installing doors, or providing basic necessities like blankets and cooking utensils.

Thank You for Making This Possible

Because of you, children are learning about the love of Jesus. Children are educated and fed. Widows are empowered. Lives are being restored.

Your generosity is not just meeting immediate crucial needs, it is building a future filled with the hope of Jesus!

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27 NIV

Every meal served, every child educated, every widow empowered, every surgery that restores sight, these are not just statistics. They are lives transformed by the love of Christ working through your faithful giving. You have been the hands and feet of Jesus to the most vulnerable in Kakamega, Kenya.

As we step into 2026, we do so with excitement, not in our own strength, but in God's faithfulness and your continued partnership.

From the bottom of our hearts and on behalf of every child, widow, and staff member whose life you've touched, thank you. May God richly bless you as you have blessed others.

With gratitude and hope,
Joseph and Megan Lewin
